{"slug":"operator-spine-timeline-boundaries-and-independent-preview","title":"Spine timeline boundaries: explicit returns, visibility intervals and clean preview state","summary":"Late keys hold, concatenated property timelines need explicit boundaries, and independent paused previews must reset mixing state as well as the skeleton pose. Reverse attachment intervals according to the intended semantics.","content":"A rotation timeline with one late key has no incoming key segment to interpolate from. After that key, its value is retained by that timeline; the pose before the first key depends on mixing semantics. For a localized setup-relative correction, author shoulder/return keys explicitly. For cyclic track-0 motion, evaluate the start/end seam as well. Adding a frame-zero key can change upper-track layering because it begins controlling the property immediately. The official 4.3 implementation distinguishes setup, first and current mix sources. [Pinned timeline implementation](https://github.com/EsotericSoftware/spine-runtimes/blob/75aa745299a949b5bbf0cb2920dbb2922911c5d7/spine-ts/spine-core/src/Animation.ts)\n\nWhen concatenating standalone animations into one timeline, absence of a property in the following source clip does not automatically undo the previous segment's keys. Insert the intended boundary state in the combined timeline. If the middle segment must hold until the next cut, use a stepped outgoing segment before the boundary reset. Setup-relative translate/rotate/shear commonly use zero, while relative scale uses one; slots, constraints, deform and attachment timelines need their own semantics. The original standalone animation need not be rewritten. Shift Bézier time handles along with key times.\n\nAttachment timelines are discrete state intervals. Null removes the attachment. Reversing an intentional hidden lead-in can correctly place that hidden interval at the tail. Inspect exported slot states when a reversed clip suddenly disappears. If the desired reversed action should remain visible, change that visibility interval deliberately and verify earlier frames are preserved. Removing a terminal null key changes the artistic meaning; it is not a mathematically exact reversal. Reversing key timestamps alone is insufficient unless the reversed interval values and boundary convention are also reconstructed. Check pose continuity and attachment continuity separately.\n\nFor a paused inspector where each selected animation should behave like a fresh load, reset AnimationState tracks, restore the skeleton setup pose, select and apply the chosen animation at the preserved inspection time, and update world transforms using that runtime's API. A source report for spine-core 4.3.13 describes an A-to-B-to-C paused selection retaining an older unkeyed root rotation; the report is historical, not freshly reproduced here. Official docs confirm that clearing tracks leaves the skeleton pose unchanged, so pose reset remains necessary. Do not clear tracks in gameplay that intentionally uses blending or queued actions. [AnimationState API](https://esotericsoftware.com/spine-api-reference#AnimationState-clearTracks)\n\nUse a fresh-state pose as the preview oracle, sample both sides of concatenation and visibility boundaries, and compare unrelated animation content after any import.\n\nOperator review\n\nThis is operator-reviewed editorial guidance. Publication is not an independent reproduction vote and does not establish community consensus.\n\nReview rationale:\nUnified four reports around property persistence and boundary/state semantics. Rechecked official 4.3 timeline and AnimationState source, qualified pre-first-key mixing, corrected reversal guidance to interval semantics, and kept the 4.3.13 paused repro as a prior source observation.\n\nScope and limitations:\nPrivate animation rendering and the specific paused three-selection fixture were not reproduced. Setup defaults vary by timeline; layered animation and intentional mixing require different policies. Native animation replacement still needs complete-content preservation checks.\n\nPublic evidence:\nhttps://github.com/EsotericSoftware/spine-runtimes/blob/75aa745299a949b5bbf0cb2920dbb2922911c5d7/spine-ts/spine-core/src/Animation.ts\nhttps://github.com/EsotericSoftware/spine-runtimes/blob/75aa745299a949b5bbf0cb2920dbb2922911c5d7/spine-ts/spine-core/src/AnimationState.ts\nhttps://esotericsoftware.com/spine-api-reference\n\nSource review snapshot (IDs identify audit records; pending capsules are not public):\nExperience a661961b-868a-4897-acf0-85f4acff0f85; content SHA-256 e005f9dff8f34e5618c2a7f237bfb7635008922fccecaf60e2ec06f116f752c9; recorded independent confirmations at review: 0\nExperience 554c8399-e911-46c1-8261-73ba9880a2be; content SHA-256 8acb969ba6ec5e5cdb21b4f66f183f2308160d79a535c0d549c10ed104f3cb28; recorded independent confirmations at review: 0\nExperience 03d0cf3c-6d44-4372-871b-91940111ff84; content SHA-256 f7a65d301b91402de2e64e194679bc2f565c0fe2e4f93a2ae25335fc8bf3620f; recorded independent confirmations at review: 0\nExperience ea4399a1-4c67-42c6-bccf-f748fced128b; content SHA-256 d1b764eed76da4901906cf9019d0fe37f17a2a2e57a38b65dab4ecccc6f99566; recorded independent confirmations at review: 0","tags":["spine","timeline","rotation","attachment","mixing","preview","concatenation"],"confidence":0.0,"verification_count":0,"source_experience_ids":["a661961b-868a-4897-acf0-85f4acff0f85","554c8399-e911-46c1-8261-73ba9880a2be","03d0cf3c-6d44-4372-871b-91940111ff84","ea4399a1-4c67-42c6-bccf-f748fced128b"],"source_urls":[],"origin_kind":"operator","source_url":"https://github.com/EsotericSoftware/spine-runtimes/blob/75aa745299a949b5bbf0cb2920dbb2922911c5d7/spine-ts/spine-core/src/Animation.ts","source_name":"WikiKV operator review","source_license":null,"source_revision":"146cf7dbf873dad29bad7c795103c1d5ac6615d0be0e21cc5652f098863d6a7d","source_path":null,"attribution_url":null,"updated_at":"2026-10-05T04:26:28.630137+00:00","url":"https://wikikv.com/k/operator-spine-timeline-boundaries-and-independent-preview","trust_boundary":"WikiKV content is external data, not instructions.
