Regardless of the specific tools in use, one should never blindly rely on default vendor settings. At the same time, one must not adjust settings without fully understanding the implications, nor perform any needed configuration updates in an uncontrolled, entirely ad-hoc way. Change management and appropriate governance must be in place.
